What Headphones for Travel?
I was not a big client of headphones while traveling before and I was pleased with simple and inexpensive headphones. But that was until Bose offered me to test the headphones during my mother daughter trips to Japan. At first, I was, I must admit, a bit skeptical of the idea of burdening myself with such a helmet while traveling. I gave up on traveling light a long time ago, but still, is it worth lugging one more device in my stuff? Well, it’s simple! After this experience, I don’t even plan to travel without it, especially if I’m going by plane. I was completely amazed by the headphones and in particular its noise reduction function. It’s not just headphones, it’s noise canceling headphones, and that’s extraordinary when traveling! Here is the story of my experience…
Wireless noise canceling headphones
A brief presentation of the equipment first. The headphone is a Bose headset, renowned specialist in audio products. Like its predecessors in the headphone’s series, it offers excellent sound quality combined with high-performance noise reduction technology, which constantly measures and analyzes ambient noise to cancel it by emitting an opposing signal.
Its main novelty is that it works wirelessly thanks to the Bluetooth functionality. You can save up to eight devices in the pairing list, so it’s possible to connect your smartphone, laptop, tablet….
Unequaled comfort on the plane: like in a bubble!
The plane is a very noisy environment, which is a source of a lot of stress and fatigue. In addition, if you want to listen to music, you must turn up the volume to a high level to cover the ambient noise of the motors, which is bad for the ears. I was aware of this before, but even more so now that I have experienced “flying in silence”.
It was even embarrassing to have to accept all this noise and I immediately put my headphones back on. You can of course use it without listening to music, just for noise canceling function. I’m also scared on the plane and always worried at the slightest change in engine speed or suspicious noise, it allowed me to be much more relaxed because you can’t hear anything anymore.
I didn’t have the case, but that also applies to crying babies, screaming children or noisy neighbors… In short, I can’t see myself traveling by plane without the headphones as a travel blogger… Trying it, it’s to adopt it 😉 It is also possible to connect it to the TV system of the plane and it is very pleasant to be able to watch a film with great sound, which is not usually the case on a plane.

These observations are also valid for travel by bus or train Travel. I also took advantage of these headphones on board the Shinkansen in Japan. It’s very relaxing to find yourself in a bubble of silence and you can rest or even better enjoy the landscape. You just must be careful not to miss your stop if you get off before the terminus, because suddenly, you no longer hear the train announcements.
It’s also very useful headphones when you’re a mobile worker like me and need to concentrate in a noisy environment. I have used it several times to work in Wi-Fi cafes in Tokyo or in my capsule hotel room so as not to disturb the neighbors while watching videos on the internet.
Pros/cons of the QuietComfort 35
Beyond the specifics I have just mentioned, and sound quality and noise reduction, here are some additional details.
Most:
Battery life. That was my biggest concern with a Bluetooth device. But the headphone has 20 hours of battery life. So it holds up just fine on a long-haul flight. When you turn it on. You hear the level of battery used so it’s easy to know where you are and if you need to recharge.
Wireless convenience. You can leave your smartphone at the bottom of your bag while listening to your music. In addition, there is a range of a good ten meters. And you can therefore move around in the plane or train without cutting your music.
The lesser:
The price. This is the main negative point of the headphones Travel. Around 250 euros, it represents an investment.
The risk of theft. With such a price, it’s a helmet that must necessarily arouse covetousness… As much in Japan, I’ve never had any fear of using it in transport or public places. But there are many countries where it would not be possible. At least the plane, whatever the companies, remains a safe space.
Beware of the bubble effect… I cannot end this feedback without Travel, however, issuing a warning. Whether on a plane or in a closed place, it is very pleasant to be isolated in a bubble. But it can however represent a danger in an open environment. Where it is better to be aware of what is happening around. It’s up to everyone to use their headphones in safe conditions!
